Kinepolis – Mobile App

Design Sprint

4 days design sprint project on the redesign of the mobile experience of Kinepolis Netherlands, one of top players in the media industry in Europe. With 4 people, we developed a clickable demo to be tested and presented to the Marketing team in Utrecht.

Brief

Kinepolis Group is a Belgian cinema chain founded in 1997. Within 20 years the group has grown internationally to 49 cinemas spread across Belgium, France, Spain, Luxemburg, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Poland.

Holding the 12% of market share in the Netherlands, Kinepolis is present in 15 locations across the country and is perceived as a solid brand that competes against global groups such as Pathé and Vue.

Following a market and user research conducted from an external agency to gain a solid understanding about the cinema experience the Netherlands, in fall 2017 Kinepolis reached out to us to validate the main research insights and explore various possibilities to enhance its mobile experience.

Insight Definition

We identified and highlighted 4 main insights:

  • Expand to an engaging social experience
  • Personalization
  • In-App payment
  • Planning a cinema night out

We translated the insights into “How might we..?” to reframe the challenge, set priorities and clear guidelines for the ideation phase.

  • How might we offer a personalized and engaging browsing experience?
  • How might we offer a quick and seamless in-app payment process?

Result

The prototype app was presented to the Marketing Director of Kinepolis Netherlands in December 2017 and will soon be pitched by the development team to the other Kinepolis branches worldwide.
